On the close optical companion of V1494 Aql: problems with light curve modelling

چکیده

New observations of the eclipsing nova V1494 Aql were analysed in order to estimate the effect of the optical companion located 1. ′′4 southwest. R and I-band images (stellar FWHM ≈ 1. ′′2 − 1. ′′4) taken close to the primary minimum were used to determine relative magnitude differences between the nova and the companion, which were found to be ∆R ≈ 0. m20 and ∆I ≈ 0. m52 (in the sense nova minus companion). After correcting R-band time-series observations for the secondary light, the eclipse depth has been found to be almost twice as deep. Before modelling any late eclipsing light curve that is available in the literature, the data must be corrected for the light of the companion.

Detection of Two-armed Spiral Shocks on the Accretion Disk of the Eclipsing Fast Nova V1494 Aquilae

We have modeled the unusual orbital light curve of V1494 Aquilae (Nova Aquilae 1999 No.2) and found that such an unusual orbital light curve can be reproduced when there exist two-armed, spiral shocks on the accretion disk. V1494 Aql is a fast classical nova and found to be an eclipsing system with the orbital period of 0.1346138 days in the late phase of the nova outburst. Its orbital light cu...

A New Clue to the Transition Mechanism between Optical High and Low States of the Supersoft X-ray Source Rx J0513.9−6951, Implied from the Recurrent Nova Ci Aquilae 2000 Outburst Model

We have found a new clue to the transition mechanism between optical high/X-ray off and optical low/X-ray on states of the LMC supersoft X-ray source RX J0513.9−6951. A sharp ∼ 1 mag drop is common to the CI Aql 2000 outburst. These drops are naturally attributed to cessation of optically thick winds on white dwarfs. A detailed light-curve analysis of CI Aql indicates that the size of a disk dr...

Six months of mass outflow and inclined rings in the ejecta of V1494 Aql

V1494 Aql was a very fast nova which reached a visual maximum of mv ≃4.0 by the end of 1999 December 3. We report observations from 4 to 284 days after discovery, including sub–mm– and cm–band fluxes, a single MERLIN image, and optical spectroscopy in the 410 to 700 nm range. The extent of the radio continuum emission is consistent with a recent lower distance estimate of 1.6 kpc. We conclude t...

Early spectroscopic observations of Nova ( V 1494 ) Aquilae 1999 No . 2 ⋆

Low-and medium resolution spectra of the fast nova, Nova (V1494) Aql 1999 No.2 obtained approximately 6, 7, 19 and 28 days after the maximum brightness are presented and discussed. The spectrum covering the whole optical range at day 6 shows the principal plus diffuse-enhanced spectrum. The presence of strong Fe II multiplets with P-Cyg profiles suggest that V1494 Aql belongs to the " Fe II " c...

Optical and Supersoft X-ray Light Curve Models of Classical Nova V2491 Cygni: a New Clue to the Secondary Maximum

V2491 Cygni (Nova Cygni 2008 No.2) was detected as a transient supersoft X-ray source with the Swift XRT as early as 40 days after the outburst, suggesting a very massive white dwarf (WD) close to the Chandrasekhar limit. We present a unified model of near infrared, optical, and X-ray light curves for V2491 Cyg, and have estimated, from our best-fit model, the WD mass to be 1.3±0.02 M⊙ with an ...
